How Are Claim Refunds Calculated?

Please note that claim refunds vary based upon your policy, deductible choices, and co-insurance.

Policies Serviced by Rainwalk Technology, Inc. or Kanguro Insurance LLC

Say your pet is diagnosed with a condition covered by your policy and needs treatment. Here's what you'd get back with a standard policy that has a $20,000 annual coverage limit, 90% reimbursement percentage, and a $250 deductible:

Cost to treat$5,000
Deductible−$250
Amount Insurances Pays (90%)× 90%
Total reimbursement$4,275
Your out-of-pocket expense (deductible + 10% of bill)$725

Policies Serviced by Odie Pet Insurance

Odie uses a co-insurance-then-deductible method to calculate claim refunds. We first review all line items to determine what's eligible for coverage under your plan, then subtract co-insurance from the covered charges, and take any remaining annual deductible from what's left.

For example, say you've selected a $950 annual deductible and a 90% reimbursement plan:

Actual vet bill$1,500
10% co-insurance (90% reimbursement)−$150
Remaining annual deductible−$950
Reimbursement amount$400

You submit a $1,500 bill. First, the 10% co-insurance ($150) is subtracted, leaving $1,350. Then the $950 deductible is subtracted, for a total reimbursement of $400.
